A black screen should appear for a second and then bring you back to the main RetroArch menu. Pick a system you want (say NES for example) and look for an emulator for that system (QuickNES, fixnes, or FCEumm for the example we are using).

Some of these are hard to read what system they are for but this is where the emulators are.

When RetroArch loads, if you are using the Wiimote, turn it sideways with the D-pad on your left.

I'll be using RetroArch as the example for this guide but it should be very similar on all other emulators But if it doesn't work in one, just switch it to the other and try again. Mine is the bottom slot when the Wii is laying on the side.

The USB device does matter what slot it is in, at least it does when playing Wii games from it so I'm assuming it does with roms as well.

Safely remove your SD and/or USB device from your computer and put them in your Wii.

For those that have a huge library of roms and want to play them via USB device where there is more room, create a roms folder on your flash drive or external hard drive and place your roms on there (each console you have roms for should have a separate folder).

I would place them in SD > roms > console for easier navigation.

If you can fit all of your roms on your SD card, more power to you.

If you haven't done so already, any of the emulators you have downloaded will have to be placed on your SD card under the 'apps' folder.

(Optional for Homebrew retro games) You will need a WAD Manager for the Homebrew games - You likely already have a program to install WADs since you need it for softmodding the Wii (installing IOS patches) but if you don't, there's a few links for you.

For an external, I recommend a USB powered one. I know that this flash drive works but I have heard others do not work. The 256gb would probably be perfect depending on how large your library of games is but since mine is small, I bought the 128gb since it was on sale.

Flash drive or external hard drive - I used this flash drive because it was small and wouldn't stick out far.

SD Card - you should already have this from when you modded your Wii.
